Usually, after 2 to 3 years of beginner lessons, students arrive at a level comparable with the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Grade 1. That’s when they transition into the next level of our curriculum.

Private Piano: Stage 2

By this stage, piano students usually have had private lessons for about 2-3 years and are ready to discover the beauty and excitement of the vast classical repertoire for piano. In other words, what we jokingly call “proper pieces”.

They possess initial technique, and very good reading skills, both in terms of notes and rhythms, as well as a basic amount of knowledge of tempo markings and other Italian terms.

Our students at this stage have also gained considerable performing experience, mainly from our monthly Masterclasses, which are included in their tuition.

They have also played at least four recitals in front of a wide audience and maybe already have had a chance to perform in festivals and competitions for very young pianists.

The transition to Private Piano 201 is very, very smooth. We pride ourselves in finding the perfect pacing for each student to progress through technique, etudes and pieces.

We have an article about choosing wisely your piano teacher: How to Choose a Piano Teacher?

Music, even in situations of the greatest horror, should never be painful to the ear but should flatter and charm it, and thereby always remain music.
